The Asian population makes up about 5% of the total US population, and their percentage of the US population has increased since the 1980s. Asians started immigrating in large numbers during the 19th century, however, US laws largely curtailed Asian immigration until the 1940s.

After the US changed its immigration laws to make entry easier, a much larger new wave of immigration from Asia began.

The census determines asian as countries such as China, Japan and Korea as well as the Pacific Islands like Tonga, Samoa and Fiji. And India is considered to be south asia.

We’re going to talk about the US states with the largest asian populations, talk about famous asian americans, and reference a handful of asian stereotypes.

Here’s the rest of the top 10 states by percentage of Asian Americans for 2021:

  3. New Jersey
  4. Washington
  5. New York
  6. Nevada

When we analyze what it’s like to live in a certain place, we simply look at statistics. In particular, we can look to the recently released 2015-2019 American Community Survey for a detailed breakdown of race by state.

Specifically, we looked at table B03002 which has the breakdown of people by Hispanic/latino and race.

We looked at the percentage of the population of each state that identified as non-Hispanic/latino, asian.

We then ranked each city from 1 to 50 in terms of that percentage with the state having the highest overall percentage being named the “State In America with the Largest Asian population” — Hawaii.

The “least Asian” state according to the data? That would be Montana.

Here’s a look at the top ten states with the largest asian population in America.
